Check out Denison math for highschool!

I was wondering if you could demonstrate how you teach the lesson? Maybe Record while working with a child?? This is my first year homeschooling and that part is so intimidating and vague!

The upside of being 4 months behind on youtube is that I get to be in the same season as you.

I've had the same issue with my kids handwriting. I also wanted them to do copywork. Then I realized that when they are doing Fix-it Grammar, after fixing the sentence they copy it down below. So what I did was require them to copy it in very nice print handwriting. I also wanted them to do more dictation so every other day I started covering the sentence when they were done and dictating it to them to write out. That way Fix-it Grammar became grammar, print copywork, and dictation. It just simplified this subjects. I have continued TGATB handwriting for the cursive. 😊

Fourth grade does seem to be one of those transition years...moving away from little kid school and toward big kid school.

We love IEW! We started with TGTB. I really enjoyed it when we used it. However, like you, it got to the point where our kids needed more structure than TGTB offered.

I sobbed through high school Abeka language and math.

My son thoroughly enjoys IEW and it really gave him the structure for writing and provide the tools he needs to move forward in his writing skills

Any recommendations on where to find videos to assist with the lessons?

OK I need to tell you my 8 year old is doing TGTB level 4 and she been writing on the writing and spelling part and she doing great and loving it. I trust TGAB. 😊

when my kids have aged out of elementary math I have put them in Denison and would 100% recommend

We use TGTB Language Arts, but I, too, found their writing portions to not be enough for my boys. While they love using the curriculum, they hated just receiving a prompt and writing whatever they wanted. They needed solid structure. So we started doing IEW in place of TGTB writing portions. The improvement I've seen is wild. I will say though, I've had a hard time understanding IEW's process, even after doing the teaching structure and style, so I finally decided to just be a bit more loose with it all and relax a bit 😂 My older boys no longer push back about writing. In fact, this summer, they wrote out 50 book reports each, as part of our own summer reading program, and I was beyond impressed! Anyway, I think TGTB writing portions are not geared at all toward reluctant writers.

I also was looking at IEW after downloading all TGTB language arts (I mean, it's free. Might as well use it as a supplement) to find something more rigorous. Then I picked up a Memoria Press catalog at a homeschool convention and they also recommend IEW as well as a couple of handwriting options and copywork. It doesn't quite match up in grade level the same, but I'm okay with skipping ahead or holding back as needed to make them match up. I really believe in the high standards of Memoria Press so I was excited to have those options laid out to supplement TGTB. It's a nice balance between fun looking curriculum and serious studies that can be tuned according to the kid and the day. I've also recently come across Secret Stories and Hello Literacy's Decoders and will be using that to supplement as well 🩷

I’m planning to switch my kids to Denison math after they age out of MWC/Apologia. They have video instruction and then a workbook. Sadly MWC doesn’t have high enough levels for my older kids, but we do also love Apologia. I just think MWC is a little more thorough. I’m having my rising 5th graders use EIW (not to be confused with IEW 🤪). It seems a little more doable and not so Overwhelming. The video lessons are short and it’s grammar and writing combined.

Different things work at different seasons in our homeschool. As I get ready to have a C-section for baby #6 soon we will be trying out TGTB language arts for the first time as it seems it will be a good fit for this season of life we are in!😉 Love all your videos! Thank you for always being open and honest and never bashing any curriculum. So many people do that just because they don’t like it but I appreciate you still speak well of things even when it is not a good fit for your family. ❤️

Going from 1 to 2 was killer but I had PPD and he was a NICU baby with bad reflux. Pregnant with my 3rd. 😅

Considering this is from 4 years ago, do you still recommend the same printer?

Does is seem like the math books are increasing in difficult vs the LA which is organized by subject?

The books also FEEL so quality, I’m just photocopying the mind bender puzzles so I can use them again for my son. 💕

We love Miacademy! We have been using it for 2yrs now for all three of my kids. It's wonderful.

I was wondering with the yearly checklists do you track the number of times you did math lessons that week, so for example you did math four times so you cross off four boxes, or are you tracking the lesson you did according to the curriculum pages you did, e.g page 63, 64 and 66 so three boxes crossed off, even if those three pages were done in one math lesson? I really hope that question makes sense! Ha. I am new to all this, and really like the way you plan. Thanks again, Jerusha

We love to pick and choose curriculum as well!!! We’ve never tried miaaccadamy but it’s awesome to have in my back pocket just incase!!! Wiv special needs we can’t decide on how long curriculum will take !!! I mark stuff in my planner on the weeklies!!!

Do you think the SCM history would work with omitting the Bible reading or substituting storybook Bible passages? Not sure I want to do that kind of Bible reading with little kids.

I have to bind 95 pages … would I need a different machine or just bigger coil size ?

My daughter is in Kindergarten and I think TGATB has really kept her attention and incorporated games and she loves it. As much as I feel there are maybe some other great curriculum choices, like you, I just don't want to push too hard in kindergarten. Plus why stop if it's working.

What is in the play doh kit? Does the play doh dry out quickly in that container?

We’ve had a cold and wet season of winter in Cape Town this year.. I mean weeks of non stop rain , Albeit we needed the rain so All praise is due to God 😊. Thank you for this encouragement about reading. We are in our first year learning to read, and it can be a tear-filled struggle some days. I had that exact fear that i would destroy her love of reading.

Thank-you for being so vulnerable and sharing both in homeschool and some personal, now and over the years. I and my children have benefited from that tremendously.
